Features :
Both bird-watchers and golfers trying for birdies can pursue their passions at this modern resort set within 470 forested acres. Although the hallways and some of the public spaces already show wear, the 55 rooms, complete with bathtubs tiled in slate, are a welcome upgrade from Kathmandu's famously hippie competition. Soaring ceilings and exposed brick make the rooms feel like lofts, and cottage suites add Tibetan rugs. Nepal is not known for its cuisine, but the menu prices here are so low (all entrées are under $12) that it's worth sampling everything from momos (Tibetan dumplings) to chicken tikka masala.
When to go: October, November, and February through April, for sunny days and cool nights.
Which room to book: No. 361, a duplex in the nineteenth-century Rana Lodge (doubles, $80–$105).
Amenities: 24-hour Room Service, Bar/lounge, Gym, Pool, Spa
